鄉村音樂界有許多受人尊敬的資深女藝人，但卻沒有人能夠像Dolly Parton一樣橫跨數個十年、紅遍鄉村流行，直到今日仍有高水準作品繼續推出。70年代她是排行榜上的常勝軍，1967年首支商業單曲〈Dumb Blonde〉的推出不但讓Dolly Parton正式與進入樂壇，而且證明這一位純樸的女子絕不是歌詞所說的「DumbBlonde」。Dolly Parton早期的音樂以傳統鄉村為主，多首經典至今仍時常被翻唱。1974年親自創作的〈I Will Always LoveYou〉發表後曾三度登上排行冠軍，分別是1974的首版、1980的重新改編版，以及1990年由Whitney Houston為電影「終極保鑣」所翻唱的版本； 1973年〈Jolene〉這首歌首度打入流行單曲榜之後，Dolly正式跨出鄉村界，往後所推出的作品曲風也隨之更為多元化；1978年〈Here You Come Again〉這首歌曲成功的奪下葛萊美最佳鄉村女手後，奠定了她在樂壇上的不朽地位；1981年的〈9 To 5〉及1983年與肯尼羅傑斯的〈Islands In The Stream〉橫掃成人抒情榜、流行單曲榜，以及鄉村單曲榜冠軍寶座，將Dolly的演唱生涯推至最高峰。
