1964年組團的The Byrds原始成員幾乎就是60年代以降左右美國搖滾樂壇的主將。如早期創作大將Gene Clark離團致力於迷幻搖滾、民謠搖滾、巴洛克流行的專輯，又如David Crosby後來成軍的Crosby, Stills & Nash都是搖滾經典裡的響噹噹的名號。The Byrds在翻唱巴布狄倫名作鈴鼓先生(Mr. Tambourine Man)獲得商業巨大成功，開拓民謠搖滾的路子，繼而開發搖滾吉他聲響，融入美國傳統鄉村音樂，是奠基當代搖滾的重要樂團之一
