被譽為史上最好的歌曲創作者之一，保羅賽門(Paul Simon)1941年10月13日出生於美國紐澤西州。1957年跟他的高中死黨Art Garfunkel以”Tom and Jerry”為名一起寫歌錄了單曲”Hey School Girl”，但市場反應不佳，旋即解散。保羅仍舊創作不綴，分別以”Tico and The Triumps” 和”Jerry Landis”為筆名持續寫歌錄音。1964年再次投入唱片界與Art Garfunkel組成Simon and Garfunkel二人重唱組合，發行首張專輯【Wednesday Morning 3 a.m.】。運氣欠佳的他們，再次遭遇銷售挫敗，Simon and Garfunkel解散，保羅則離開美國前往英國尋求發展，加入英國民謠圈，期間製作英國民謠歌手Jackson C. Frank首張專輯，也發表了個人第一張專輯【The Paul Simon Songbook】。回到美國後【Wednesday Morning 3 a.m.】的製作人Tom Wilson將”Sound of Silence”這首歌加入電吉他、貝斯、鼓變成一首搖滾民謠，1966年Simon and Garfunkel再次出擊，終於以【The Sound of Silence】專輯名利雙收。接下來Simon and Garfunkel以專輯【Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme】、電影原聲帶【The Graduate 畢業生】、【Bridge Over Troubled Water】得到商業以及樂評空前成功，成為1960年代最風光的民謠組合。

1970年Simon and Garfunkel正式解散後，保羅賽門再度開始個人的唱片事業。1972年發行同名專輯中，出現有別於Simon and Garfunkel專輯裡的音樂元素，例如”Mother And Child Reunion”的雷鬼音樂(在牙買加的首都Kingston錄製)，1974年專輯【There Goes Rhymin’ Simon】出現告示牌單曲榜亞軍單曲”Kodachrome”，滾石雜誌則將此專輯選入史上最佳500張專輯名單裡。1975年【Still Crazy After All These Years】專輯裡的”50 Ways To Leave Your Lover”榮登告示牌單曲榜冠軍，成為他個人最暢銷的單曲。1980年主演電影One-Trick Pony並發行同名電影原聲帶，1983年【Hearts And Bones】專輯依舊精彩，1986年【Graceland】是一張揉合世界音樂元素的1980年代流行經典專輯，他突破南非當時的種族隔離，與南非黑人音樂人合作錄製，其人道主義精神獲得舉世讚揚，並成為葛萊美獎最佳年度專輯。進入90年代，以【The Rhythm of the Saints】專輯繼續對世界音樂與流行音樂融合的探索，豐富的南美音樂節奏，將流行音樂推向更精緻的層次。1997年他以自己製作編寫的百老匯舞台劇【The Capeman】為材料發表【Songs from The Capeman】專輯，2000年發表【You’re the One】專輯，2001年以此專輯提名葛萊美年度最佳專輯，成為史上第一位連續5個10年都獲得此項項提名的藝人。2006年個人第11張專輯【Surprise】發表，依舊佳評如潮。超過半世紀的音樂生涯，他的作品無啻是流行音樂的經典。
