崛起於60年代紐約地下音樂圈，創立搖滾團體「地下利益The Velvet Underground」， Lou Reed超過40年的音樂創作，展現出美國地下另類音樂豐富多姿的面貌。1972年大衛鮑伊替他製作「Transformer」專輯，泡製了像是” Vicious”、” Walk On The Wild Side”、” Satellite Of Love”這些精彩至極的歌曲。
1973年的概念專輯「Berlin」亦維持他的創作實力，雖然1975年以噪音專輯「Metal Machine Music招致惡評，但陸續發行的專輯卻無不證明，他是美國搖滾樂界的頭號叛逆詩人。這張【路瑞德 世紀典藏 絕讚版】跨廠收錄華納唱片的許多佳作，如2003年概念專輯【The Raven】的Who Am I (Tripitena’s Song)，1992年專輯同名曲Magic and Loss，2000年的迷幻經典Ectasy，還有Velvet Underground樂團時期的Pale Blue Eyes。
